Extracellular ACBP/DBI participates in a short-term homeostatic feedback loop to link starvation to food intake. However, obesity causes an increase in ACBP/DBI expression and its spontaneous release that leads to chronic hyperphagy, thus locking the disease in a pathogenic feedforward loop.
